Structural Design

One of primary business streams is structural design, where we provide cost effective, sustainable and innovative design solutions for both new build structures and alterations/extensions to existing structures.

Our designs are undertaken and checked by suitably qualified and chartered engineers where they have the latest design and drawing software available to them to assist with such designs.

The vast majority of projects to which we provide design, are subject to Building Standards & Building Warrant Approval where we have a working knowledge of the Scottish Building Regulations, both domestic and non-domestic.

SER Certification

SER certification is required for compliance with the Building (Scotland) Regulations 2004 and applies to building work in Scotland.

The aim of SER certification is to improve the structural safety of buildings and the scheme is run by Structural Engineers Registration Ltd (SER) on behalf of the Scottish Government’s Building Standards Division (BSD).

As part of the scheme, individual engineers and engineering practices are approved to award SER certificates, whereby we are registered as an 'Approved Body' and employ 'Approved Certifiers' of the scheme

Structural Surveys

Again, one of our  primary business streams is structural surveys where we are on hand to inspect buildings and structures from a structural perspective.

We offer written reporting following the survey where we not only identify and describe any defects, but also give our expert opinion on the route cause(s) and provide detailed proposals to remediate/rectify such defects.

We started our structural survey offering following a number of enquiries for home buyers/sellers where the home report had identified a potential structural concern and as such recommended that a structural engineer be commissioned to provide their opinion.  This is typically required to conclude a sale and for mortgage lenders to release funds.  This still forms a significant proportion of the surveys we undertake.

Civil Engineering

As a further string to our bow, we can also offer civil engineering design which include but not limited to; public/private roads and pathways, below ground drainage and retention structures.

This typically runs in parallel with some of our structural projects which avoids the need for a standalone civil design service which can usually offer a cost saving to the client.

With this in mind we can provide a one-stop engineering service for developments such a housing sites where we can provide the engineering design to not only the house types but also the roads and drainage including Roads Construction Consent and Sewer Technical Approval.

Architecture

We work with a number of Architects and architectural practices on a daily basis and can therefore include an Architectural service as part of our offering.

Alternatively,  we can furnish our clients with quotations from our preferred Architects, who would be selected on a project specific basis to ensure the specific requirements of the project are met or exceeded.

The client could then appoint them direct, safe in the knowledge they have came recommended.

Site Investigation

Where new build structures are proposed, as part of our structural design, it is necessary to undertake a site investigation to establish the existing ground conditions to inform the foundation design.

We work closely with a number of geotechnical/geological engineers and can therefore include this service as part of our offering or furnish our clients with quotations to allow them to accept direct, safe in the knowledge that they have come recommended
